"yours sincerely" is used in business letters.
"yours faithfully" is used in simple letters that are written to friends.

If you do not know the person who receive your letter...use "Yours faithfully"
1) e.g. :Dear Sir/ Madam,
Yours faithfully,

2)e.g. : Dear Teacher /parents etc.,
Yours faithfully,

If you know the person who receive your letter...use "Yours sincerely"
1)e.g. : Dear Mr Chan,
Yours sincerely,

2)e.g. : Dear Mary / Peter, etc.,
Yours sincerely,

你都可以這樣記, 有大S 的時候不會有 小s, 所以"Sir" 的時候不會用"sincerely" 而是用"Yours faithfully"

"Sir" 是你唔知名的, 所以所有 "沒有姓名"的都係用"Yours faithfully"
