American culture has undeniably had a great impact on the world since World War Two, due to the rising entertainment industry.

I think Chinese people are aware that Western/American media is sometimes inadvertently biased (see: "Free Tibet" riots during 2008 Olympics), but contrary to popular belief also realise their own government-controlled media isn't perfect either. They might take both views and apply common sense.

Foreign policy: it's good when they're getting along. But sometimes events can cause friction, e.g. the U2 spy plane incident over Hainan, China in 2001 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hainan_Island_incident), and more recently the navy disputes.

American food? Usually we think of fast food, sorry.

I think Chinese people are generally receptive towards Obama. However, racists will always be present in every society.

most people don't care about politics here, they just care their lives
Fashion? Media? i just know we watch lot of yours movies, tv, mtv..
we watch Friends, Lost, Prison Break..etc. Scofield is famous here...
so i think there's no block of fashion or Media between the two countries. there's lot of foreigners work here, you can ask them, not the people has never been here, Seeing is believing :)

Yes, Chinese used to see America as a land of opportunities, hence the rush from China during the Gold Rush and also the peak immigration a decade or few ago. However, nowadays, because China itself is advancing, not many Chinese see America as a land of opportunities anymore, in fact, many Chinese in China see how they are doing better (financially) than Chinese immigrants in USA. Fashion and media go hand in hand as the only time that Chinese people get to see US fashion is through the media: magazines, movies, tv, etc. I think women in China lean more towards European fashion rather than that of the US. Food? Yes, the only US food that Chinese people know are McDonald's, KFC, Pizza Hut, etc., not the most healthy.
