Flooding usually takes place along the rivers. Whenthere are rainstorms, within a short period of time in a drainagebasin, there may be too much water collected in the river. Excess watermay spill out from the river causing flooding.

另外, drainage basin啫係乜野?
Drainage basin即「河盆系統」，指在分水嶺 (watershed)內的整過地域，通常內含多條支流(tributaries)與一條幹流 (mainstream)。通常整個drainage basin會響個valley度，咁三面都係地勢較高的山脊(spur)，而河流會匯出到大海。
題外, watershed又係乜野?
Watershed就係分水嶺，由於地勢關係，降雨若降於一個分水嶺之內，就會流入該河盆的支流，並匯入到幹流去。

excess water又係乜野?
即過多的雨水。文中提到暴風雨(rainstorm)之發生，即有大量降雨 (precipitation)，地表徑流(surface runoff)因而大增，而流入河流的水自然多了，而河水增多，若超出河水的負載量 (drainage capacity)，就形成過量的水，河流既然負載不來，就自然溶出造成氾濫。
