In each flooding, the floodwater beings lots of sediments to thelowland. A layer of alluvium is deposited after the flood water drainsaway. After several floods, the layers of soil deposited build up tobecome alluvial plain. The soil in the plain is fertile and is good forfarming.

在每次泛濫（flooding），洪水（floodwater）會把大量的泥沙（sediments）帶到河的下游（lowland 是低地，其位置都在河的下游）。每當洪水退卻後，這些泥沙會在河流的兩岸沉積，我們叫這種沉積物為沖積土（alluvium）。經重複的泛濫後，沖積土會累積成沖積平原（alluvial plain）。在沖積平原上形成的泥土是肥沃的，而且很適合作耕種之用。
