Sum= addition

-18+12= -6

Ans -6

When addition or subtraction in algebra when the two number signs are different you subtract and keep the sign of the larger number and when the signs are the same you add and keep the same sign.

On the other hand when multiplying and dividing in algebra when the signs are different you THE SIGNS WILL ALWAYS BE NEGATIVE! and when the signs are the same THEY WILL ALWAYS BE POSITIVE

Here are the rules
For Division and Multiplication
- - = +

+ + =+

- += -
+ - = -

Here are the rules for
SUbtraction and Addition
_ += - Meaning you subtract and keep the sign of the largest
+- = - Meaning you subtract and keep the sign of the largest
+ + = + Meaning you add and keep the sign
- - = - Meaning you add and keep the sign

When adding like signs, keep the sign and add.

When adding unlike signs, take the smaller value from the bigger value, and give the sign of the bigger one to your answer.

Your signs are not alike, therefore you have to take 12 from 18 (smaller from bigger), leaving 6. Because the sign of the larger one is -, give that sign to the answer. This results in -6.
