A particle of mass m is free to rotate at the end A of a light inextensible string AB of length L fixed at its other end B.
The particle is projected horizontal, a point C on the string strikes a fixed smooth peg so that the radial acceleration of the particle is instantaneously doubled. Find the length of AC.

ANS: L/2

This is easy...

Suppose the particle is projected horizontally with a speed of v

Then, the radial acceleration of the particle = mv2 / L

Now, the radial acceleration of the particle is doubled, that is 2mv2 / L = mv2 / (L/2)

So, the radius of the circular path becomes L/2, so the length of AC is L/2
