Math equation - quite simple?

If i have the equation:

-y = -7 - x

Does the negative sign on both sides of the equation cancel out? Therefor making the equation like this:

y = 7 + x

Thanks for your help.

ok thanks.. i thought i was loosing my mind or something.. i just have this really hard equation and that one part was bugging me coz i cant fault anything else.. oh well.. ill try again..

Yes, you are right!

It is the same as multiplying (-1) throughout the whole equation. So,

(-1) * (-y) = (-1) * (-7 - x)

which results in

y = 7 + x

if you have a negative value , you can multiply EVERYTHING by -1 to simplify it
