by the time 點用

你好，By the time Wednesday rolled around, I still hadn't finished 的意思是。。。

等星期三流逝了时，我还是没做完。

我知道的事，By the time 可用在 present 和 past 的时候，刚好你以上的句子就是在用着 past 的。

请看以下的例子。。。

1) By the time something happens (for the present)
- It's too late to go to the bank now. By the time we get there, it will be closed.
(= the bank will close between now and the time we get there)

2) By the time something happened (for the past)
- Susan's car broke down on the way to the party last night. By the time she arrived, most of the other guests had left.
(= it took her a long time to get to the party and most of the guests left during this time)

eg. By the time you turn adult, you would understand the reason.
