After reading this newspaper article, I feel that the person who committed drug smuggling offence is very foolish. Because of his foolish act, not only will he ruin his future but also bring burden to the people around him. I believe that this is only one of such cases and there are more to come. Hence, I feel that there is a need to strengthen custom checks, so as to prevent such drug smuggling cases from happening in Hong Kong.
Drugs are harmful. Most people perceive drugs as something that would cause harm to them. However, there are exceptions. Some people feel that drugs may not be as harmful. These people take drugs partly because of curiosity or being influenced by bad company. They think that by taking drugs, they would find a sense of excitement and pleasure. I feel that these people have a wrong mindset. By having this mindset, it would eventually lead to drug abusing.
In today's society, teenagers are also involved in drug abusing cases; this includes under-aged teens. Through results from statistics, the youngest drug abuser was a 9-year old kid. This news was indeed shocking, thus something needs to be done to prevent such cases from continuing. I feel that parents should educate their children on the effects of drug abuse and how drugs would cause harm to them not only physically but would also create several social problems. I am sure by doing this, drug abusing and drug smuggling activities would greatly reduce.
