1) When nickel is heated with copper (II) oxide, nickel oxide and copper are formed.

a)
Nickel is more reactive.

b)
Put a piece of nickel into copper(II) sulphate solution. Displacement occurs to give green nickel(II) ion and reddish brown copper metal.

Alternative answer:
Put separately each of a piece of nickel and a piece of copper into 2 cm3 of dilute hydrochloric acid. Nickel reacts slowly with dilute hydrochloric to give colourless bubbles of hydrogen, but copper gives no reaction.
