何謂80 Plus？它指的是一款電源供應器產品，在20%、50%、100%輸出時，都至少必須達到80%以上的效率，同時PF功率校正因數要求在0.9以上。不少人會把Efficiency跟PF這兩個值搞混，舉例來說，一款標示500W的電源供應器，在100W、250W、500W這三種輸出中，若以80%的轉換效率計算，要求交流電輸入值至少為125Ｗ、312.5Ｗ、625Ｗ。若PF為0.95，則輸入端的視在功率是131VA、328VA、658VA。
以500W來看，擁有80%效率的電源供應器，交流電輸入為625W。反之，只有60%效率的產品，交流電則需要輸入500W／60%＝833W。因此，轉換效率的高低，直接成為電源供應器最重要的關鍵。
