my hamster doesnt run on his wheel ?

i got a hamster recently called coco when i got her at the pet shop she didn't have a wheel and didn't know how to use it but i put it in her cage and just like u she didn't use it. i tryed putting her in there and she hopped straight back out. when i got my second cage it came with a wheel so i through the other one away and loosend the new one so it was easier to run on. within a few days she was running on it all the time. i found out that it was beacause the old wheel wasn't big enough and it was to stiff. try getting a new wheel for your hamster the best ones are silent spinners or the room wheels like this:

put a treat on it and as soon as it finds out what it does then he will be on there in no time!!!

Measure your hamster, then measure your wheel.

If this wheel isn't close to 2x the size of your hamster, that is why. My syrian is 5 inches long, and he couldn't run on anything until I got him an 11inch silent spinner...($30 =/ )...

I agree with Shamu. I had to get rid of the wheel which came with my hamster's cage because it was too small for my poor hammy to run on. He used to fall out. I got him the biggest wheel I could from the pet shop and what a difference! He stays up all night now running around. I also think he has lost weight too. You could try using plastic ball if he refuses to run in his wheel. It's not cruel - you are trying to keep him healthy.
