What do you think about Chinese that treated discriminatory to Mexicans who went on vacation to China?

Because they though they could possible carry the swine flu...
On news they said the very first was in America in 1918. Were they discriminated by other countries?

I think if they think that there carriers they should quarantine them in a 5 star hotel and then carry out tests ASAP.

After they have been cleared they can then say sorry to them but putting them in a hotel that does not have all of its utilities working.

The ones with flu virus they can further quarantine them.

Chinese government is really afraid of the outbreak of swine flu in China like SARS last time now. Many people panic at this ,Even some traditional chinese medicines have been sold out in Guangzhou,China,SO Chinese Government took some actions, All passagers in last flight from mexico, that has a comfirmed case, were separated, Inlcude Mexicans,Chinese, Not aimed at Mexicans, Please dont be too sensitive.

I guess this pretty much normal. Even Argentina and Chile banned Mexican tourists from entering their countries, but so far, Mexico has only protested against China.

Mexico must understand the fear that the Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome or SARS brought to China, where it killed nearly 400 people. The Chinese government is just taking precautions so as not to lead to the spreading of the disease.

In fact, if I were the World Health Organization, I would have took steps on the last week of April to quarantine all North American visitors - look, they refused to do so, and this is why there are now Swine Flu cases in New Zealand, Australia, Asia, Europe, and Africa.

You are so sensitive about China. If things happened in other country, the government would do the same to prevent the flu affect to public... Right efforts taken would stop bad things like SARS several years ago. Not even Mexicans are separated, Chinese people also the same as they were on the same flight!

PLZ,we don't have too many choices....A few days ago,a mexican plane just arrived ShangHai and we let them passed, soon some paople were discoverded had a fever, all Chinese people are afried of this...what can we do?You know the latent period of Swine Flu is about 7 days..and Hong Kong already got the cases, which were brought by Mexicans...
I dont have a discrimination toward Mexican people, best wishes to all of them!

I think that the Chinese would be discriminatory against any group of people who may have some kind of disease capable of producing an epidemic, but lets think about this.
China is the most populated area of the world, it is a natural breeding ground for epidemics, and once it starts, you would not be able to stop it there.

I don't think this is discrimination.

do temperature checks at the airport offend people? does the close of schools and businesses mean discrimination?

since domestic precautions are ok, do other countries have the same right to do the same thing?

this is not discriminatory, it is discriminatory to stop people from protecting themselvse.

carrying swine flu is not who you are, it's just temporary.

I can't see any likeness between this and sexual orientation or skin color or lifelong diseases like aids.

It is unfortunate that it has to end up that way. While I feel sorry for our Mexican friends, I DO think it was necessary to quarantine them.

The case in HK proved that a simple screening test in the airport was not sufficient. FULL STOP.

( By the way, according to the Singapore TV channel NewsAsia, the Chinese did try their best to keep the quarantined Mexicans as comfortable as possible, even going as far as serving some of them full-course Peking Duck meals for dinner!! )

omg, this is not good. I may be an American going to China this summer, but my family is from Mexico. and it's obvious i'm not your typical white American tourist, i have a bit of a tan.
But when i went last year people mostly assumed i was American, which was correct, and some would ask where i was from. some assumed i was from india or malaysia or indonesia or they thought i was arab. that was funny.

but hopefully i don't have problems because i will be traveling by myself for most of my trip

But what you are saying, is it true? do you have sources for that?
I think it would be dumb to discriminate solely because of the country they came from had a swine flu outbreak.

it is a very serious flu. Everyone shouldn't be any more careful. In Chinese, there is an old saying which means "never worry about things costing one million dollars, but corruption of one out of a million"

chance(one out of a million) could lead to disaster!

Not only do China take this measure, all other countries should take tough measures too !

Didn't China quarantined a bunch of Canadian travelers the other day in fear of the swine flu as well? Their actions is not called "discrimination" but rather "precautionary". There are a couple countries who've already closed their borders to all Mexicans, infected or not. Why don't the Mexicans argue about that first. There is nothing wrong with a country trying to protect its people from any types of potential flu outbreak. China is just doing its part in the world's health being. I am sure Mexico would do the same if not close its borders altogether if the flu was from somewhere else and potentially infected visitors try to enter its borders for a vacation.
