You almost solved it on your own. Just set each factor equal to zero and solve for w:

w-3=0
w=3

w+1=0
w=-1

And so if you wanted the solutions separated by a comma:

w = 3, -1

(w - 3)(w + 1) = 0

w - 3 = 0
w = 3

w + 1 = 0
w = -1

∴ w = -1 , 3

(w-3)(w+1)=0

(w-3)
w=3

(w+1)
w=-1

substitute 3

(w-3)(w+1)
(3-3)(3+1)
(0)x(4)=0

substitute -1

(w-3)(w+1)
(-1-3)(-1+1)=0
(-4)x(0)=0

so the answers are:
w=3
w=-1

since (w-3)(w+1)=0
therefore, w-3=0
w=3
and, w+1=0
w=-1

Set each factor equal to zero because at least one must equal zero. THere are two solutions. w-3=0 w+1=0
w=3 w=-1

w=3,w=-1

foiled= w^2-2w-3

Zeros: W=3 W= -1
