The Intel Core i7 has four processor cores inside of it, while the Core 2 Duo has only two cores. This means that the i7 can run multiple programs at once more efficiently than the dual core. Also, the i7 is hyper threaded, which means that the computer actually thinks it has eight cores, because two threads can be run on each core. So the i7 is even better than a Core 2 Quad, which has four cores but no hyperthreading.

well with a core 2 duo you in a way have 2 cpu's in one. but with the new i7 you have 8 in one they are called threads. each thread can run a process on its own so you can do many things at the same time. what is different with the i7 is it has turbo boost where other chips didnt. this alows the thread that is being used take power from another thread that is unused to make the process faster. older chips with threads dont do this.

u can consider that core i7 is almost 5 times faster then any other cpu in market.

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "functions"... It does have Hyperthreading and is a lot faster than any other consumer CPU on the market.
