T = 透光率
ε = 摩爾吸光系數 (L mol-1 cm-1)
b = 路徑長度 (cm)
c = 溶液濃度 (mol L-1)

應用公式: -log10T = εbc

ε 和 c 保持不變。

當 b = 2.0 cm,T = 60%:
- log1060% = ε(2.0)c
εc = (-log1060%)/2 ...... (1)

當 b = 1.0 cm:
-log10T = εbc = εc(1.0) = [(-log1060%)/2] x (1.0)
log10T = (log1060%)/2 = -0.1109
透光率 T = 10-0.1109 = 77.5%

當 b = 3.0 cm:
-log10T = εbc = εc(3.0) = [(-log1060%)/2] x (3.0)
log10T = 3(log1060%)/2 = -0.3328
透光率 T = 10-0.3328 = 46.5%
