We launched a survey via questionnaire and requested all the hotel guests to fill it in before they checked out. The questionnaire was mainly designed to understand their opinions on the service and facilities of the hotel. It also helped us to analyze the categories of our guests. We successfully collected 1,800 completed questionnaires and obtained the following information:
1. Categories of our guests:
50% are from business sector
35% are individuals
15% are tour groups.
2. Comments from guests on room rate:
20% considered our charge as over-priced
60% considered our charge as slightly over-priced
15% considered our charge as reasonable
5% considered our charge as undercharged
3. Service / facilities receiving positive comments from guests
40% satisfied with our speedy check-in service
35% satisfied with our food quality
15% satisfied with the friendly attitude of our staff
4. Comments from guests on our facilities
80% suggested us to provide more facilities, since we only have swimming pool at the moment
75% suggested us to supply newspaper in the morning
Summary
Basically most of our hotel guests are businessman, and overall our guests are quite satisfied with the performance of our staff and the service we provide. We analyzed that our room charge and facilities are areas receiving most negative comments from our guests. To conclude we should make appropriate adjustment and improvement.
Suggestions for adjustments and improvements
A. Room rate
According to the information obtained from the questionnaires, most guests deemed our room rate is on the high side. I suggest that we should use room rates of other hotels of same grade and/or in same vicinity as reference to adjust our room rates so that we can be more competitive in pricing.
B. Facilities
Since most guests commented that our facilities are inadequate, I suggest that we modify the existing spare space to be a multi-function room so that we can utilize it with more flexibility.

As for the supply of newspaper, I suggest that we shall put a newspaper rack with a newspaper recycle rack next to the elevator on each floor so that guests who are interested in reading can have a handy assess to the newspaper.

They can also put the newspaper after reading to the recycle rack which is more environmental friendly.
