Simple may not be true to the original translation intended. Jesus warns us about he scribes. Even when using the KJV, you need to use a Strong's Concordance to be able to look up the meaning of words used in the original Hebrew and Greek. There is a site called Bible verses removed that I suggest you look at and study the changes that man has made in the newer versions of Bibles.

I don't like the NIV. I use the KJV but if I bought another one, it would be the NASB.

KJV is indeed a wonderful work; it is right, the words change in four centuries, so new translations are needed to keep the Word more easy to understand.
Some "fundies" argue that KJV is "The Bible" but this cannot be accepted. We do not get the Word of God just having a book; we must ask help from the Spirit to understand it, and should also possibly look at the opinions of previous believers. I do admit, this means "tradition"; but would you study math without reading any textbook except the Nature?
