In this sertence, forward is adv. so " to " 不是infinitive﹐因為在這裡它是一個preposition﹐所以後面要跟phrase.
however, i am not sure that is adv. can put behind main verb or this is a special usage?
i only know adv. will be put in front of main verb.

其實許多時，adv也放在動詞之後，這是常見的事，如：yahoo字典也有多例
She looked backward over her shoulder.（backward是adv)
A cup fell down to the ground.
He drove up north
The boat went under
Let's go out for a walk.
紅色的字都是adv，因沒有受詞就知它們不是preposition
