Tomato-looking fruit?

Is it possible it is persimmons? We Assyrians eat it with a spoon, like dig it in, and scoop it up! What is it?

Persimmons grow in our woods (Alabama) and they match your description..Are they tart?

yeaaa i think those are persimmons we eat them too... are they kind of an orange color? and the shape is almost like a tomato right?
