a). 1.12g of a metal M required 40.0cm^3 of 1.00M hydrochloric acid for complete reaction:
M (s) + 2HCL (aq) --> MCl2 (aq) + H2 (g)

Calculate the relative atomic amss of metal M.

M(s) + 2HCl(aq) → MCl2(aq) + H2(g)
Mole ratio M : HCl = 1 : 2

No. of moles of HCl = 1 x (40/1000) = 0.04 mol
No. of moles of M = 0.04 x (1/2) = 0.02 mol
Mass of M = 1.12 g
Molar mass of M = 1.12/0.02 = 56 g mol-1
Relative atomic mass of M = 56
