<Olympic Charter> indicates Olympic spirit is mutal understanding, friendship, unity and fair play. Olympic spirit has great guidance effect on Olympic Games.
Firstly, Olympic spirit emphasizes tolerance and understanding of cultural difference. Olympic Games are international activities, which face diferences in cultures all over the world and problems caused by it unevitably. Athletes, coaches, officials and audience drom different countries, with differnt colours, in different apparels, speak different languages, live different lifestyles, carry out different religious rituals, and use different ways to express themselves. These racial and cultural difference, intensified through the conflicts of political status, economic system and ideology of all countries. To some extent, Olympic Games held every four years , consentrate all sports cultures in a tiny area of space and time and make differences among different cultures impressive. Difference is conflict, difference may trigger conflict.
Olympics spirit emphasizes mutal understanding, friendship, and unity, in order to form an atmosphere. In this atmoshere,people can get rid of the prejudice of their own culture and in different presentation, we do not see contradiction and conflict but the cultural picture of variety and gesture, that make cultural difference a factor to stir people communicate, instead of being self-alienated, make contradiction a force to learn mutually, but not a reason to despise mutually. Once people in this atmophere, people can break their narrow insights and be a broad-bosomed citizen of the world, to learn and understand the things except for my race, realize every race has her own msgic imagination and massive dreativity,kearn to respect others races and treat others and ourselves more objective and fairly, absorb other reaces’advantages, and enrich ourselves and make the international communication suggested by Olympics real.
