On of the major cause of computer failure is overheating. It is important that a computer be kept clean on the inside. Make sure that air flow is not blocked to the power supply or CPU cooler. I use a soft paint brush an a vacuum at home, but at the computer repair store I use high pressure air and the dust clouds are unbelievable. I clean my computer every six months.
1. Keep it clean... Dust, makes problems so keep it clean.
2. Keep it cool... Lots of heat makes lots of problems so cool it.
3. Use protection... Surfing the web is like having sex with stranger use your anti-virus software first time every time.
4. Back it up... In case you have a major meltdown you should back up anything that's important to you. You can back it up on CD, DVD, or Portable hard-drive.
5. If the website seems to good to be true... It is get out of there as fast as possible.
As well as running virus-scans and keeping your computer clean, run frequent registry cleanings. The windows registry tool cleans out worthless files and deletes them. This tool is found in START>>>ALL PROGRAMS>>>ACCESSORIES>>>SYSTEM TOOLS.
Or, you can check out ccleaner. It's a good tool that does the same as the windows one. ccleaner.com
It hit right on the head babe!!
All those will help your computer last longer.
But be honest, how many of us can resist the internet. With email, downloads etc..?
You would have to have a Motherboard that would let you do this. For example my sony Vio is about 5 going on 6 years but because my mother board had a PCI express slot, Memory upgradable to 2 GB DDR3, My computer will last for another 3 - 4 years without being considered slow or old. If you don't have this, my only suggestion is to turn off your computer when its not in use, install more fans on your computer, and don't over clock your CPU.
Don't stay on too long, or as much as possible when you are done turn your computer off. It will save electricity and will avoid any over heating. Don't download software from sources you don't trust, it will most likely lead to viruses. It has happened to me don't let it happen to you.
Just simply scan your computer with anti virus programs about every two weeks then I think your desktop will live for a long time.
Remember to keep you PC updated at times such as 'Windows Updates' if you go to your Tools area.
Less playing online games or games alone because it takes a lot of power (battery).
Never let it go on standby. Always switch off so it wouldn't overheat.
Hope this helps!
