用 of 是因為 [asked too much of the lady] really means [asked too much of what the lady has (or is able to do, or is able to give etc.).

2. D. beyond
[beyond his wildest dreams] is an expression to mean it is extremely unlikely, or is better than he could hope for.

3. C. to
[to a large extent] is derived from the idiom [to a great extent], with the same meaning, being largely, or mainly.
