I live up north, in 10th grade in high school, and I plan on graduating early next year. After I graduate I would like to move to Florida and gain residency there for a year before attending college. I have family in Florida, an aunt and uncle, and my grandparents live there during two seasons. What do I do, can i gain residency, and get cheaper college? or is this impossible?

I would assume your FAFSA would have your parents tax information since you're probably not emancipated.

There's no doubt in my mind that you can become a resident of FL within a year but I'm not sure how it would work out with financial aid.

I would call a college you're planning on possibly attending and just let them know you will be moving to FL about a year before attending college and would you be considered an in state student? You don't have to tell them you're moving there just so you can have in-state rates....just act as though you happen to be moving there and would be interested in college too, and are just planning ahead.

You would no doubt become a Florida resident. Open an account with a Florida bank even for a few dollars and you are on the way. Also keep some mail addressed to you in Florida. If you want to be extra safe consult with an attorney./
