6y² + y - 12 = 0
y² + 1/12y = 2 + (1/12)²
y² + 1/12y = 288/144 + 1/144
(y + 1/12)² = 289/144
y + 1/12 = 17/12

= y + 1/12 - 17/12, = y - 16/12, = y - 4/3, = 3y - 4
= y + 1/12 + 17/12, = y + 18/12, = y + 3/2, = 2y + 3

Answer: (3y - 4)(2y + 3)

6y²+y-12
= 6y²-8y+9y-12
= 2y(3y-4)+3(3y-4)
= (2y+3)(3y-4)

6y^2 + y - 12
= 6y^2 + 9y - 8y - 12
= (6y^2 + 9y) - (8y + 12)
= 3y(2y + 3) - 4(2y + 3)
= (2y + 3)(3y - 4)

use the general form ...
which is [-b +/- Square root of b^2-4ac ] / 2a

I will post you the answer in a second..

The answer is an imaginary number:
If you are still interested in it, I can explain it... Otherwise, if you have no idea what imaginary numbers are, consider it as there is no answer... if you do...
the answer is -1+ROOT(-287) / 12 or -1-ROOT(-287) / 12

of course it CAN be simplified more... but I have no calculator on me now...

P.S: The imaginary issue is because of the square root of the negative number....
