Following the economic development and progress in productivity, Hong Kongers (or Hong Kong people "Hong Kongers" have become accepted in the English-speaking world, such as in SCMP) have become more affluent and are living a richer life. Materialism has become the prevailing value in Hong Kong. In addition, most people take pride in showing off what they have. Youngsters (or Teenagers) in Hong Kong can easily be misled and fall into the trap of going after the latest and high-end products, resulting in adverse financial situation. Worse still, they can end up in great debt or even bankruptcy.
Our project aims to help the students contemplate on the true motivations behind purchasing brand name merchandise and analyze whether the motivations are to satisfy one's needs or wants. Through the process, students can develop a more rational attitude towards managing their finances and managing their shopping desires.
