Hong Kong-Yesterda,the busy city of Hong Kong was hit by
Tyhoon York,a terrible storm which lasted 11 hours.The storm caused great damage and at least 80 people were injured.
The Hong Kong Observatory issued a No.10 tyhoon alert the
highest arning given for a tropical storm.Nearly 30 trees were uprootedd by the powerful winds,which reached up yo 150 kmh.
The city was flooded as heavy rains poured down.Roads,
schools and businesses were forced to close for the day.Airline and ferry services were also stopped as power failures hit the whole city.
Mr.Don Wu,a businessman said,''This is the worst storm I have experienced in 20 years.My shop was destroyed by the tyhoon.''
Many homes have also been destroyed and many people are nw homeless.
The government has set up temporary shelters.Official reots show that more than 100 people are now staying at these shelters.
The latest information shows that Tyhoon York is heading for South China. Mr.Raymond Wong,an office worker,is one of those who stayed calm.He said,''When a tyhoon strikes,I can't do anything about it.All I can do is wait for it to pass.I'm just glad that it's over.''
