FI there was a shock wave from a star could we hide behind jupiter?

Not like super nova but I saw this history channel show where there was this shock wave that could rip of the earths atmosphere but not strong enough to destroy earth would be be safe hiding behind jupiter?

No not earth behing jupiter like us hopping in a ship and flying behind it before it happened

You're probably talking about a gamma ray burst. The chances of Jupiter being directly in the path between us and the burst are pretty much zero. But that's ok, because those are also the chances of a burst going off nearby and being pointed at us in the first place.

no because in space the shock wave would act a lot like a regular wave in the ocean going around an island.
