How come my nail polish never looks as it does when I get a manicure?
I use the same brand of nail polish at home and the three stroke technique to apply it, but my nail polish is still bumpy when I do it myself. Tips? Advice? What's the secret?
Also how do you shape nails? I'm tired of spending money on manicures ugh. i want to do it myself.

Before putting anything on your nails, file them.
(Tip: Invest in a good nail file. The best one are glass files. I've seen them at Sephora but I think they sell cheaper in other stores.)

To shape your nails, see how they already are. Are they curved or straight?

Once you find your nail shape take the file and follow the tip of the nail going smoothly with one long stroke across the whole nail, keeping in mind the shape of the nail. Keep doing this until the nail is smooth.

Now its time to put on the polish.
*(Tip: Whenever doing a manicure make you give at least 2-3 hours of drying time before going to bed. Even if your nails feel dry, they'll get all bumpy and rough if you don't give them enough time. Best bet, do your nails in the afternoon.)

Start with a good base coat. One coat per nail is all it takes. This should dry pretty quickly, and once it's dry to the touch, start applying one coat of your colour to each nail.
*(Tip: Make sure the nail polish hasn't hardened in the bottle. Only use polishes that have a smooth consistensy.)

Let the nails dry for a few minutes before applying a second coat.

Once dry, go ahead and apply your top coat, but if you must, and only if you MUST, apply a third coat of colour. THREE COATS MAXIMUM. Too many coats will take too long to fully dry and may still get bumpy overnight.

So let your nails dry for about 5-10 minutes, and then apply the top coat(a TOP COAT, not a clear polish, becuase some clear polishes will actually take off your colour). Dry for approx. 10-20 minutes, or how ever long it takes.

Good luck♥

Are you buffing your nail bed? a natural nail bed will have bumps. Get a buffing block and a nail file to shape them the way you want. As for doing your on manicure you can easily do it yourself it just takes practice and patients. Are you using a fast drying base and top coat when you paint your nails? That will help them look nicer. good luck

In: get some supplement from health food shops called horsetail, take as per instruction.

out: change your brand, good nail varnishes dont bump unless they re expired, fresh ones go on smoothly, expired stock come out like glue and antique ones come out like pudding or not at all!
