Does Super Mario do drugs?

I've been researching on magic mushrooms and the magic mushrooms on Google look like the red capped mushrooms Mario uses in the game to make himself taller. What do you think? Are they drugs Mario uses in the game? Or are they just plain mushrooms?

I think there must have been some kind of undertone here when they developed this game. Why else would you choose a MUSHROOM to give you a special power? Seems ridiculous NOT to be related infact.
Maybe not to be thought of as drugs but I think there was definitely an influence here.

They’re super mushrooms. I do not think that Shigeru Miyamoto intended for them to be percieved as drugs. PLUS if they were drugs, Mario would be doing waaaay more trippy things other than just growing big…

If it was like drugs the government would stop it.
