Spoiler Alert: For anyone who hasn't read the manga this far.
But Madara says that Itachi did all of the things he did for the survival of Konoha, and to save Sasuke's life, now while I like Sasuke to be handled now and then, I don't believe Sasuke was that weak where Itachi would have killed him so easily and Itachi had to lose on purpose. It just sounds like a plot Akatsuki is using to destroy Konoha.
Whoever won that is who they would proceed with to destroy Konoha.

No I don't believe Itachi was good, but that Madara killed him through poison so that he could get Sasuke's help to destroy Konoha. Remember Sasuke came will new members.

Yes I do believe Itachi was and IS good.
It sucked though, he was so skilled, and people used him for that skill.
The Third said your family is too strong and you must kill them so that power can remain even. My @ss, of course the power would be even and what not. Uchihas aren't jerks, they'll listen.
And Itachi unfortuantely got influenced by Madara too, wanting to be more powerful, ended in him destroying everything. He killed his best friend for his Sharingan.
Of course Itachi was the only connection for Uchihas to the Konaha Village, and it seemed that they were too secretive. So the Third said, go kill your family.
I believe Itachi is pure though, he was a good enough brother to spare his brother. And yes, even though he killed hsi parentws and left Sasuke traumatized, he's still alive to become powerful and avenge Konaha.
Itachi is good, and he always will be. Though I wish he didn't get killed. Sasuke is just to quick to things, no patience what so ever.

I don´t agree with you, I believe Itachi was on the same level that Madara.
If he was really bad he could kill sasuke a long time ago, when he was still to weak.
But until we see the fight Sasuke against Madara we will be sure of this.

Itachi is good, but his methods of showing his "goodness" were extreme, if not dysfunctional. Did he have to make Sasuke hate him by killing their clan...probably not, but he did so to make Sasuke stronger and following orders.
Personally, I think Itachi is a guilty mess who wanted Sasuke to kill him. That's just my personal opinion.

he is good. he killed the uchiha clan from orders from sandaime as the uchihas were planning to stage a coup d'etat which would throw konoha into chaos. he also could not bring himself to kill sasuke so he asked sandaime to look after him. he does not want to kill him, but transfer his powers to sasuke and let sasuke avenge uchiha by killing madara uchiha who started the mess about itachi
