Chinese Hoisin sauce recipe?

What way would you suggest to make hoisin sauce?

Whereas in Chinese restaurants the sauce has a shiny syrupy quality I find the bottles of hoisin you get to be like a thick gravy, Does anyone have a recipe or suggest any particular brand to be like the restaurant quality?

Are you sure you had hoisin sauce and not oyster sauce? Oyster sauce is shiny syrupy in texture.

Hi: A lot of chinese restaurants here blend Hoisin with some ketchup for a looser texture. Some also blend the duck sauce with a bit of applesauce for a thinner dip.

There are tons of recipes out there, this is just one. I have eaten hoisin sauce for decades and have never seen it as a "shiny syrupy quality", it has always been quite thick.
