1b) what is the main device used in refining oil?

2a) in the reaction in which hydrogen is obtained form methane, what does the nickel catalyst do?

2b) how could you remove the carbon dioxide from a mixture of carbon dioxide and hydrogen?

2c) Methane can also react with steam to give carbon monoxide and hydrogen. Write a balanced chamical equation for this reaction.

2d) how might nitrogen be extracted from the air?

It the fractionally distillation of crude oil.

1b)
The main device is the fractionating tower.

2a)
The nickel catalyst provides reactive surface for the reaction.

2b)
Pass the gaseous mixture through sodium hydroxide solution.
2NaOH(aq) + CO2(g) → Na2CO3(aq) + H2O(l)
OR: 2OH-(aq) + CO2(g) → CO32-(aq) + H2O(l)

2c)
CH4(g) + H2O(g) → CO(g) + 3H2(g)

2d)
Nitrogen is obtained by fractional distillation of liquefied air.
