I have a friend who lost her house and I'd like to do something. Any ideas?

My friend M. just lost her house. She and I don't live in the same same state. She lost her health insurance because her huband lost his job. She's got 2 schoolage kids. They were able to find a place to rent. I'd like to get her something . . . something besides a card. I'd like to help her/her family in some way. What would be a good idea?

Any ideas on this would be appreciated. Thanks! : )

Jezebel: I do TRUST my friend. We've been friends from 7th grade. She didn't fake losing her house of 10 years! And I would never tell her I wasn't giving her something because I didn't need it. I WANT to give her something RELATED to her situation. Ballza: She already has a rice cooker, and a crockpot, and a blender and all those things. She's 40! She doesn't need something like that. Penny: She already knows she can call me ANY TIME. We're friends for God's sake! Wllsh: Ha ha! Obviously, you didn't read my question --SHE HAS ALREADY found a place to rent.

Patty: Thanks. : ) I like your suggestion. I'm just looking here to see if anyone comes up with any other thoughtful and/or creative ideas.

First, you are a good friend for even wanting to help. My husband was out of work for 1 1/2 years and all my "friends" were saying things like aww too bad. Not one offered to help in anyway. I would send her gift cards for a store near her area like a Walmart super store, or someplace that has groceries and other items which may be needed. Find out the area she lives in and see what stores are near her!

I don't believe somone would make up losing there house like the other poster suggested. Be as generous as possible and you could just put it in a card with a note. I hope them the best. Hey, just stick in a check if you want to.

Just let her know you are the other end of a phone if she wants someone to talk to.

Buy her a rice cooker it's a great way to save time and money because rice is cheap and fills you up fast. You could send her gift cards to some stores that her family would like.

I wouldn't send her money or money orders because with the way that people lie there is no telling where that money would end up. But, you COULD get a gift card to a grocery store that way she would have no choice but to buy food with it. You could tell her "hey I got this card from someone but it's just me living here so i don't need it"
