In the figure, AHIJ, AEFG and ABCD are three similar rectangles. If AH, AE and AB are in the ratio 1:3:5, find the ratio of the area of the yellow region to that of the blue region.
The area of AHIJ, AEFG and ABCD are in the ratio
AH^2 : AE^2 : AB^2 = 1 : 9 : 25
So Green : Yellow : Blue = 1 : (9 - 1) : ( 25 - 9)
= 1 : 8 : 16
So Yellow region : Blue region = 8 : 16 = 1: 2
