Does .02=2%? Or does .02 X 100=2%?

I took a test and accidentally said .02 X 100= 2% instead of saying .02=2%

percent is not an absolute amount. it is relative.

so 2% of a number IS the same as the number times .02

but if .02 is the actual amount of some quantity, it may represent any percent. For example .02 grams is 50% of .04 grams. But .02 seconds is 10% of .2 seconds.

So I would never say a decimal "equals" a percent as an absolute statement out of context (like ".02 IS 2% ).

0.02
= 0.02 x 100%
= 2%

You can also say 0.02 = 2% directly.

% is just a fancy way of saying "over a hundred".

Thus, 2% = 2/100 = 0.02 = 1/50 = etc.

while .02 x 100 is simply 2.

There are100 "percents" in a unit.
100% = 1
therefore, multiplying by 100% does not change the value.

If it had been
.02 * 100% = 2%
then it would have been correct, and it would show that 2% is indeed equal to 0.02.

0.02 = 2% is right

Percentage representation is just a notation. Doesnt really mean anything more than a number

.02 x 100 = 2, not 2%

.02 = 2/100.

if you say that .02 x 100 = 2%, then you may be marked wrong.

.02 IS 2%, so multiplying it by 100 = 200%
