This statement is wrong...

It should be:

An object has more internal energy when it is hot than it is cold. Not more heat.

It is because heat is a description of energy flow when there is a temperature difference between two objects. It is not a state of energy. So, heat cannot be used to describe the energy content of an object.

On the other hand, when an object is hot, its intermolecular potential energy increases since the molecular separation increases, also the molecular kinetic energy increases since the molecules vibrate more violently about their equilibrium position.

Internal energy is the sum of intermolecular potential energy and the molecular kinetic energy of an object. Therefore, when the object is hot, it has more internal energy than it does when it is cold.
