I would like to introduce the 'Statue of Liberty' in America. This sculpture is also called 'Liberty Enlightening the World'. It is given to America from France in 1876, as a gift for the 100th anniversary of US being independent. This statue is located on the Liberty Island in New York City, and is one of the most important tourist attractions.
The Statue is dressed in ancient Greek style clothing, and it has a pointy crown that represents the 7 continents and the 5 oceans. The right hand of the statue is holding up a torch, which symbolised (or represents) Freedom; and its left is carrying a book with 'Year 1776, July 4th' carve onto the surface. At its feet, there are broken cuffs and chains. This sculpture represents freedom after the American Revolution. It is opened to public on the 28th of October in 1886. The interior (inside) of the statue is hollow, and it is design by Gustave Eiffel (or just Eiffel; 音:i-fo).
The base of the statue has a foyer (音:foi-yeh), in 1972, the America Government transformed it into a museum with a cinema, showing the early American lifestyle. The Statue of Liberty was added to one of the World Heritage Sites in 1984.
