BOOM! Another accident happened while someone talked on a cell phone and biked at the same time. This kind of accident happens every day at my school.
As i walk around the campus, nearly eighty percent of students on bicycles are either listening to music on their iPods or talking on their cell phones. Many students believe that listening to music while biking to the next class will help them relax after a boring class or a stressful test, but they do not realize the danger. They cannot determine if an accident is nearby or take action to prevent one from occurring. Recent bike statistics show that one out of every twenty people is in a bike accident each year. Because my school is in an area with a larger than average number of bicycles, the likelihood of accidents is increased.
In order to insure their own safety and that of others, cyclists should avoid listening to music or talking on cell phones. Although many individuals find biking while listening to music or talking on cell phones pleasant and relaxing, it becomes dangerous when they are not able to hear what is going on around them.
