= (1280 ÷ 80) : (720 ÷ 80)
= 16 : 9

1280 x 720 = 128 / 72 = 16 / 9

I don't like how people go backwards in math. The easiest way is to find the multiplier for the ratio:

16/9 = 1.777...

Then multiply the height (720) by that ratio:

1.777... * 720 = 1280

Since the result is the width of the resolution, it is 16:9!

If all you have is the width, you swap the divisor:

9/16 = 0.5625

then multiply the width:

1280 * 0.5625 = 720

This relates to so many areas in math I really wish it was taught better in schools.

1280 Divided by 16 = 80. 80 X 9 = 720.

1280 x 720 is a widescreen HD format. The pixels are square and thus the aspect ratio is 16:9.

However, other pixel ratios (e.g. 720 x 480) can be either widescreen (16 x 9) or full screen (4:3) depending on whether you have square or rectangular pixels.

Anyway, in your case, that is a progressive widescreen HD format.
