I always listen music while riding my bike. There are good things that come from listening to music while riding. Like not having to listen the wind howl in your ear. I hate that especially on a windy day. I suggest that you purchase some ear-buds, you know, the ones that fit inside your ear? You can listen to upbeat songs that may keep you pumped since you can't direct that energy towards dancing. You can sing badly and act silly because everyone is just a passer-by and it won't really matter. Your mind is occupied, so long trips seem shorter. Plus it helps to eliminate road noise, muffler noise and car alarms and stuff.
The bad things are stuff like somebody trying to give you a warning with a car horn or yelling at you to watch out for something like a dog or something like that. I still hear those sounds but just not as loud, which doesn't allow you to be as alarmed as you would normally be. You may think you are paying enough attention to everything around you but you're not because your brain is processing more information when you are jammin out to music. You might also miss out on more pleasant sounds like birds chirping or kids laughing and playing. Whichever you choose always be more alert than you would be otherwise because you never know what these dummies on four wheels are thinking.
