A student decides to use the identical technique in Part B to determine the density of an unknown metal. She obtains the following data:

Mass of Empty Beaker unknown_prefix
13.316g unknown_prefix

Mass of Beaker + metal pellets unknown_prefix
61.631g unknown_prefix

Initial volume of water in cylinder unknown_prefix
30.1 mL unknown_prefix

Final volume of water + metal pellets in cylinder unknown_prefix
59.1 mL unknown_prefix

Use this data to determine the density of the metal in g/cm3 to the correct number of significant figures:

✔ 最佳答案

Mass of the metal
= 61.631 - 13.316
= 48.315 g

Volume of the metal
= Increase in volume reading of the cylinder
= 59.1 - 30.1
= 29.0 mL
= 29.0 cm3

Density of the metal
= 48.315/29.0
= 1.67 g/cm3 (3 sig. figs.)
=
