Wavelength, λ = 500 nm = 500 X 10^-9 m

Diffraction grating separation, d = 0.01 / 5000 = 2 X 10^-6 m

By the equation:

mλ = dsinθ

m = dsinθ/ λ <= d / λ

m <= (2 X 10^-6) / (500 X 10^-9)

m <= 4

So, the maximum order that can be seen on each side of the central is 4.

The answer is C.
