Sue your parents - they didn't teach you to count.
Adding the powers 1 + 2 + 4 with common number W gives W^7
w + w + w + w + w + w
= 2w + w + w + w + w
= 3w + w + w + w
= 4w + w + w
= 5w + w
= 6w
When you have the same variable (or letter), just add them up and put that number in front of the variable (or letter)
So, you have
w+w+w+w+w+w
6 - w's
Solution: 6w
Other examples:
x + y + x + y + y
(x + x ) + (y + y + y)
= 2x + 3y
**Note- you cannot combine 2x and 3y because they have different variables (letters). They stay separate. It's like adding 2 apples and 3 bananas....you can't. You still have 2 apples and 3 bananas.
EXAMPLE:
5x + 4y + x + y + x + 2y
(5x + x + x) + (4y + y + 2y)
= 7x + 7y
I hope this explains how to add variables
:o)
