The Cold War is one of the most important periods in history because of the explosive advancements in aerospace exploration, weapons development, and technologies throughout the entire Cold War period, spanning a period of 50 years. The growth was exponential due to the prolonged competition between the United States and the Soviet Union.

The Cold War saw periods of both heightened tension and relative calm. On the one hand, international crises such as the Berlin Blockade (1948–1949), the Korean War (1950–1953), the Berlin Crisis of 1961, the Vietnam War (1959–1975), the Soviet war in Afghanistan (1979–1989), and especially the 1962 Cuban Missile Crisis, raised fears of a Third World War.

In the end, it made U.S. the sole military superpower in the world, and at the same time, propagated the collapse of the Soviet Union.
