Did you get cd's with the laptop?
If so, does one say "recovery disk"
If so, start the pc with that in the cd-rom

if not.
Look at the FIRST screen when you boot. Do you see "press XXX for recovery"

if so, press XXX.

You will lose ALL your information.

unless someone else wants to guide you through a complete cleaning.

10 to 1, any viruses on your system have probably also infected the system restore files, so when you "restore" you will probably bring those viruses back with you.

Seems like you have a serious problem with your hard drive. The first thing you should do is try to boot into safe mode. In order to do that, I believe that the key that you would have to press when the system first turns on is f8. At least thats how it is on a dell machine. Once you are in safe mode, then you should run a system restore and restore it to a time when the computer was functioning properly. Just try to go into safe mode and then report back here if you get the same problem. Worst comes to worst, it would be inevitable to rreformat your hard drive. Now days, most computers come with a recovery disk that would revert your computer back to its original settings. First try to see if it works in safe mode.

Do a System Restore.

During power-on - press and hold F8 until the setup screen appears. If System Restore is one of your options, do it, otherwise you'll need the Windows OS disc and do it from that.
