這類問題是 Comparison﹐而非 Participle.

(1) Comparing Mary and May = Mary 與 May兩者比較 - 因為已說明兩個用來比較的主體﹐所以 Comparing作為動名詞﹐ 之後無須要跟 with.

(2) Compared with May = 與 May 比較起來 - 這裡 Compared 是省略了﹐完整的意思是﹕If/When Mary is compared with May﹐Compared 在此是動詞﹐故需要 with 來說明與誰來比較。

兩句意思是一樣﹐但用不同結構寫出而已﹐所以兩者皆通。
