simpifly first (remember multiplication trumps addition):
x-24x+48 = 6 and collect terms (variables on left, constants on right of the equals)
-23x = - 42 solve for x
x = 42/23
viola!
(x/4) + 6 = x - 3 (x/4)=x-9 x=4x-36 3x=36 x=12 EDIT: Mamamia is faulty. whilst she took the x to the otherside, she forgot to get rid of the adverse sign beside the 36.
first you have to distribute the -12.
x-24x+48=6
Then you would combine all the like terms
-23x=-42
Then divide by -23
x=42/23
(the answer would be positive because both the numbers you are dividing are negative.)
X=42/23
