What you do to 1 side of and equation you have to do on the other. So, you want to get rid of the whole number on the left of the = sign. Since you are dividing by 7, to get rid of the 7 you multiply both sides of the equation by 7.

(7)2x/7=3(7)
The 7's cancel out and you are left with
2x=21
Now to get rid of the 2 since you are multiplying (2)x, you divide each side by 2
2x/2=21/2
Now the 2's cancel and you are left with
x=10.5

right it fairly is an evidence a thank you to sparkling up this manner of issue. Reggie's Math Mini-classes: Combining like words question: How do I sparkling up a variable equation with one variable, yet greater suitable than one time era has the variable? REGGIE SAYS: as quickly as we've an equation with diverse variable words, we start up via simplifying so some distance as conceivable via combining like words. in case you have, case in point, 2x + 4x = 6, you are able to upload the 2x to the 4x to make 6x, imparting you with 6x = 6. We then get x via itself. In our 6x=6 occasion, we divide the two factors via 6 because of the fact 6 is the coefficient of (form that comes before) the variable. We learn that x = a million Guided Examples: --a--2c + 2c = 12 combine the c words 2c + 2c = 4c 4c = 12 Divide the two factors via 4 4c /.4 = 12 / 4 c = 3 --b--2x + 3x = sixteen - 3x upload 3x to the two area to get the x words on the comparable area 2x + 3x + 3x = sixteen - 3x + 3x -3x + 3x turns into 0 2x + 3x + 3x = sixteen combine the x words 2x + 3x + 3x = 8x 8x = sixteen Divide the two factors via 8 8x / 8 = sixteen / 8 x = 2 you are attempting those (no peeking on the solutions under till once you have tried them): a million) 3p + 4p = 21 2) 6h - 4h = 4 3) 12a + a = fifty six - a 4) 6z - 3z = 10 + z solutions: a million) p = 3 2) h = 2 3) a = 4 4) z = 5 task: Do the subject you gave us. --Reggie

2x = 21
x = 10 ½

2x / 7 = 3

multiply by 7.

2x = 21

divide by 2.

x = 10.5
2009-02-16 2:48 pm
2x/7 = 3
2x = 7(3)
2x = 21
x = 21/2 (10.5)
2009-02-16 2:47 pm
2x/7=3
2x=3X7
2x=21
x=21\2 or 10.5
2009-02-16 2:47 pm
2x/7 = 3

Multiply both sides by 7 to get rid of the fraction on the left hand side.

2x = 21

Then divide by 2

x = 10.5
2009-02-16 2:47 pm
2x/7=3
2x=21- you multiply 7 to cansel the 7 on the left
21/2=x- then you get x alone so divide by two
x=10.5- then do the math
hope this helps i got an A in algebra two so i think it is right. 10 points?

2x=3(7)=21
x=21/2=10.5

x=10.5 b/c 2x10.5=21/7=3
